Hollywood gets all of the attention, but if you want to get a taste of what the area is really all about, head to the city of West Hollywood. Whether you are relocating, or just heading to the city that never sleeps for a vacation, you will not be disappointed. Once you arrive, you are going to want to make the city of West Hollywood your new home, or your vacation destination. You can find short term accommodation for as little as six months, or make the decision to stay forever.

History

The majority of documented history of the city of West Hollywood goes back to the 18th century when Juan Cabrillo, a Spanish explorer, discovered the area that had been ravaged by disease brought on by the Europeans who had claimed the area as their own in the 1700’s. Much has changed since that time, and the Spanish colony is now one of the most loved area’s in the city of angels. Although WeHo is little more than 2 miles square it definitely dispels the idea that size matters. Take a look around, http:/glovehomesandcondos.com/locations,view.west-hollywood-california has some of the most amazing properties in the area.

Restaurants

Even if you like to cook, you can’t escape the local cuisine. Enjoy everything from delectable sushi to local favorites like Barney’s Beanery. Legend has it that Janis Joplin had her last meal at this delicious eatery, which has one of the most extensive menus in the area. When you visit the city, you are going to want to rest your head in an extended stay condo just so you can sample every restaurant, diner and dive.

Activities

Where do you start? The city of West Hollywood has an abundance of activities that everyone will enjoy. Take a tour of, “The Lot,” and don’t miss the Schindler House. You will want to wander over to the Contemporary Art exhibit located in the Pacific Design Center, and make sure you walk down Sunset Boulevard. Who knows? You may even run into a celebrity or two. The nightlife speaks for itself. Loaded with world famous nightclubs like the Whiskey A Go Go and The House of Blues, West Hollywood continues to attract some of the most famous musicians on the planet.

Culture

Eclectic is the way the locals describe the culture in the city of West Hollywood. Unpretentious and laid back, the locals welcome newbies with open arms, and if you have been looking for a new place to call home, look no further.

Shopping

Whether you are into antiques, thrift stores or art deco furniture, WeHo has it all. From Armani to BCBG, you will be enthralled. You will be amazed at how many great deals you can find.

As “the Best Little Beach City,” with fewer than 20,000 residents, Hermosa Beach is in the heart of Southern California surf country.

While nearby cities have fought over the “Surf City USA” label, Hermosa has stayed laid-back, ignoring the controversy and instead honoring surfers with a Walk of Fame on the city’s pier.

Hermosa Beach Pier is an icon that the city has rebuilt each time it’s washed away by time and storms.

History of the Hermosa Beach Pier:

In 1907, surfing came to California from Hawaii.

In 1904, Hermosa Beach built its first pier, a 500-foot wooden structure that had washed out to sea with high tides by 1913.

A year later, Hermosa built a concrete pier that was twice as long. The land end of the pier had a building that contained not just lifeguard stations, but a branch of the county library and a live theater company, Playhouse on the Pier.

Storms took their toll on this pier too; it was condemned in 1944.

A new, 1,140-foot pier was built, and dedicated in 1965.

A $9 million renovation project began in 1998 and was finished in 2005.

On March 29, 2003, the city dedicated its Surfers Walk of Fame.

Bronze plaques on the pier honor the first seven inductees, who include Bing Copeland, Hap Jacobs, Greg Noll, Mike Purpus, Rick Stoner, Dale Velzy and Dewey Weber. New surfers are honored every year, most recently Tom Rice and Richard Mobley in 2011.

Hermosa Beach is about half an hour from Los Angeles between Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. To get to Hermosa Beach Pier, follow Pier Avenue, a main strip with shopping, dining and bars, to the ocean.

To join the surfers, or to rent other water-sport equipments or bicycles, check out the Chamber of Commerce website for recommendations. Several businesses offer rentals.

The city has a handful of hotels and inns, but for a vacation that’s both more homelike and upscale, why not check out a condo to rent? Beachside convenience and stunning oceanfront views offer an experience that’s relaxing and memorable.

For those requiring caffeine and baked goods to start the day, duck into one of Palm Springs’ many coffee houses or bakeries.

Enjoy the journey and the destination as the rotating tram ascends more than two miles up Chico Canyon to the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. During summer, the park offers camping, hiking and scenic overlooks at far cooler temperatures.

What to do in Palm Springs in the winter?
With warm temperatures in the valley and snow-capped mountains, winter in Palm Springs offers visitors the best of both worlds. Enjoy warm winter days hiking and picnicking in the Indian Canyons, such as Palm or Murray Canyon. For winter sports enthusiasts, take the tram up Mt. San Jacinto for a little cross-country skiing.

Whether desert or mountain, action or relaxation, in the air or on the ground, the wide range of the activities in Palm Springs provides endless possibilities and a unique experience with each visit.

Marina Del Rey has a rich and complex history as both the largest marina in the country and a great spot for fishing off the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. In 1887, real estate developer M.C. Wicks had proposed building a marina in what is today Marina Del Rey. Under the management of the Santa Fe Railroad Wick’s company, the Ballona Development Co started the marina project but soon went bankrupt. It wasn’t until 1965 that the federal government’s Army Corps of Engineers along with Los Angeles County and some private developers realized Wick’s dream of Marina Del Rey.

If you’re visiting Los Angeles, make sure to plan a stop in the weirdest, wackiest, wildest fun spot in the country, the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Nowhere else can you get chased by a man with a chainsaw, bask in the atmosphere first created by the Beat Poets, walk through an art gallery where the art doesn’t hang on the walls, it is the walls, and enjoy the offbeat culture that is the Venice Beach Boardwalk.

Venice Beach History

Venice Beach, and the Boardwalk, have a rich and varied history. In the 1950s and 60s the Beat generation created a cultural center in Venice, creating a thriving culture of poetry and art. Lawrence Lipton, Philomene Long and other Beat poets and artists made Venice a cultural hot spot.

Later, Arnold Schwarzenegger worked out on Muscle Beach in the 1980s and made Gold’s Gym a household name.

Today, Venice Beach and the Boardwalk are the hottest tourist destination in Southern California.

Venice Beach Accommodations

There is no shortage of places to stay near the Venice Beach Boardwalk.

Hotels include the Inn at Venice Beach, just a short walk from the Boardwalk and offering guest rooms and suites.

For those who prefer a little more room and a place to cook, Globe Homes and Condos offers accommodations ranging from studios to four bedrooms.

Venice Beach Street Performers

If you noticed an earlier reference to being chased by a man with a chainsaw, don’t be alarmed. His name is Robert Greenberg, and chasing people is just one way he draws attention to his chainsaw juggling show.

Greenberg is a street performer, one of hundreds on the Boardwalk at Venice Beach. You’ll see mimes, dancers, singers, and just about anything else you can imagine, including Harry Perry, the most famous street performer in the world, and his guitar.

Venice Beach Boardwalk Art

Venice is known for its artistic and creative culture. The monthly Art Crawl, featuring “pop-up galleries” of art displayed by local businesses and residents in the general Venice Beach Boardwalk area.

The Art Walls, located at the old pavilion, are a living display of graffiti. Open for painting by artists with a permit weekends and holidays, the walls are definitely worth a visit while in Venice Beach.

The question when visiting Venice Beach is not what to do, or even what to do first, but how can you do it all? The Boardwalk at Venice Beach is a destination in itself.

On the ground floor of the Buddha House you will find the magical Zen home, which offers direct access to the beach from both bedrooms through large sliding glass doors. If you enter through the foyer to the living room and dining room, you’ll discover an unobstructed ocean view from windows on three sides.

The suite is bright and airy with cream-colored, tiled floors, white walls and imported furniture from India and Thailand that create a cozy, serene mood. Walk through sliding glass doors out to a large and lovely tiled patio with BBQ and new teak outdoor furniture, including a table-and-chair set that seats six, and 2 teak chaises where you can bask in the sun next to the famous, oversized Buddha himself.

At night, relax in the cozy living room with a large, cushy, L-shaped sofa in front of the Italian marble gas fireplace. You’ll have front row seats for watching a magical sunset, right outside your door. The living room also has a 42” LED flat screen TV with DVD player and surround sound system. Sofa folds out to a queen size bed to accommodate additional people.

The beautiful, one-of-a-kind, hand-carved dining room table seats six, and the kitchen has all you need for cooking and entertaining, including stainless steel refrigerator with ice maker, electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, blender and coffee maker.

Off the hallway from the dining room is a 1/2 bath, as well as a washer/dryer and a large linen closet. The first bedroom has a queen size bed, large sliding doors opening up to an outside private walkway to the beach, lots of closet space, a 20” LED flat screen TV with DVD player and a private bath with a jacuzzi tub/shower combo. The private view from this bedroom is of a lush tropical garden, and the bathroom has direct outdoor access to the beach and patio.

The master suite has a queen size bed and two large closets as well as a private bath with walk-in shower. Sliding glass doors view a tropical garden and have direct access to outdoor patio and the beach. The master suite also has a 29” flat screen TV and DVD player and a mini fridge.

The Zen home also has wireless Internet access, electric heat with individual controls in every room, and two assigned parking spots, which are directly accessible from the private walkway along side the unit.

Nothing will put you into a Zen state as quickly as a visit to this lovely property right on the sands of Venice Beach.
