Local information about Hollywood
Hollywood: The Heart of Los Angeles
Hollywood is the most famous of the many Los Angeles suburbs and is tucked beneath the verdant Hollywood Hills bordering West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Burbank and Glendale. The area has come a long way since 1853, when only one adobe hut stood in Cahuenga Valley, and it's now a bustling commercial and residential district offering guests superb Hollywood vacation rentals while paying fitting tribute to the multi-million dollar entertainment industry that it created. Originally marketed in the early 1920s as the new housing development of Hollywoodland, this iconic neighborhood is overflowing with attractions and is also only minutes away from the Malibu, Santa Monica and Venice beaches.
So Much To Do So Little Time
There is so much to do and see that visitors should rent a Hollywood vacation condo in the heart of the neighborhood so they can walk to the famous attractions. The area on Hollywood Boulevard between Vine and La Brea is full of famous sights - the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Wax Museum and the Academy Award's Kodak Theater being just three - and visitors to LaLa Land will need several days to work through these few blocks. Attractions within an easy bus ride of most Hollywood vacation rentals include Griffith Park Observatory, the Hollywood Sign itself and Universal Studios, the self-styled "Entertainment Capital of LA".
Hollywood Night Life
When it comes to night-time entertainment, Hollywood is truly one of the world's premier entertainment districts. Catching a movie in Hollywood simply isn't the same as anywhere else on earth as here visitors can see the latest blockbusters in Grauman's Chinese Theater - and marvel at stars' handprints and footprints - or Grauman's Egyptian Theater, which hosted the first ever movie premier. The world famous Hollywood Bowl is right around the corner, as is the Ford Amphitheater with its multimedia, music and dance events and the magnificent Pantages Theater, which invites visitors to see the latest smash-hit musicals. Trendy nightclubs where everyone can rub shoulders with the stars complete the Hollywood line up.
Dining with the Stars
After the perfect day of Hollywood sightseeing, it's back to the Hollywood short term rental apartment to get ready for a night of dining and entertainment. Before settling into the plush seats at the nearby Geffen Playhouse or the delightfully retro Vista Theater on Sunset Boulevard, a light supper at one of the famous Hollywood restaurants is a must. The Musso & Frank Grill is the oldest bistro in Tinseltown and is highly recommended - perhaps sit where Orson Wells used to hold court - as is The Formosa Cafe, which is still known for being the place "where the stars dine". From Mel's Diner on Hollywood and Highland to the ever-popular Pink's Hot Dog Stand on La Brea, Hollywood has an eatery to suit every taste.
Hidden Hollywood
Apart from the glitzy-but-expected thrills of Tinseltown, Hollywood is also home to hidden treasures, and one of these is Runyon Canyon. Lying in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains, this unspoilt canyon is the stars' favorite hiking trail, and running up Runyon to see all of Los Angeles laid out like a map is an unforgettable experience. Hollywood Forever on Sunset is another great attraction that is somewhat off-the-beaten-path, and not only can visitors explore the park to find the last resting places of such greats as Rudolph Valentino and Johnny Ramone, they can also attend the cemetery's summer movie screenings.
Where to Stay in Hollywood
Globe Home and Condos' Hollywood vacation rentals are mostly located in the peaceful Hollywood Hills area of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and its surrounds. This neighborhood offers visitors quiet and attractive rentals to which to return after an exhausting day spent exploring Hollywood and is one of the most sought after areas in the city.
Hollywood is, quite simply, a unique neighborhood, and a vacation spent in this magical place while enjoying one of the superb Hollywood vacation rentals will be remembered forever.
